Well, Sissy obviously has a learning disability from understanding words to remembering facts all the way to misunderstanding innuendos, and not even realizing that she had been placed in the school because she has been utterly abandoned by her father. She even believes that her father is a very intelligent person, when in fact he is a circus clown (a bad one at that), and she cannot even understand that.

Contrastingly, Bitzer may be what we could classify as a gifted student. Although the method of instruction at the school is very bad, disparate and unfair for the learning needs of each individual student, Bitzer has fared quite well remembering impossible to remember facts, focusing on details that nobody else would even consider thinking about. In conclusion, they are the epitome of a bad education with the difference that Bitzer, by natural gifts of intellect was able to ward off the damage that Sissy was obviously suffering.
