From my perspective, I like to make efforts to factor the numerator (top term) and denominator (bottom term) as a product of prime numbers with the intent of canceling out like terms. Remember that a prime number is only divisible by 1 and itself.

6/24

(2*3) / (2*2*2*3)

One 2 and one 3 cancel resulting in the following result:

1 / (2*2)

= 1/4

I hope that this slightly different perspective is helpful.

`6/24`

In this fraction, the numerator is smaller compared to the denominator. So, this is classified as proper fraction.

To simplify fractions, we have to refer to the GCF of the numerator and denominator. The GCF of 6 and 24 is 6.

So we divide the top and bottom numbers by 6.

`(6-:6)/(24-:6)=1/4`

Therefore, the simplified form of  `6/24`  is   `1/4` .

To simply a fraction, you have to find the highest common divisor. So it would be 6.

6/24

6/6= 1

24/6= 4

===> 1/4

`6/24`  The first thing you should ask yourself in order to simplify this problem is what is the highest number both 6 and 24 have in common.

6 can be divided by 1, 2 , 3 , and 6

24 can be divided by 1, 2 , 3 , 4 , 6, 8 , 12 and 24

Looking at those numbers we can see the highest common factor they have is a 6

Therefore we divide both 6 and 24 by 6

`6/24 -: 6 = 1/4`

The simplified form of `6/24` is `1/4`

In order to simplify 6/24 we can use the method of cancellation by considering the tables in which both the numbers lie and can be thus cancelled off easily.

We know that 24 lies in the table of 6, that is, when 6 is multiplied by 4. Hence, we use the table of 6 to simplify the fraction. Since 6*1=6 and 6*4=24, hence, we get the following answer.

`6/24`

`=1/4`

When looking at the fraction 6/24, you know it must be reduced because you can never have both the numerator ( number on top) and the denominator( number on the bottom) be even numbers- that's your hint that you can still divide them both by 2.

You our need to find the largest number that can be divided into both the numerator and the denominator- also known as the Greatest Common Factor.

factors of 6: 1, 6 and 2,3

factors of 24: 1,24 and 2,12 and 3,8 and 6,4

The largest factor that both numbers have in common is 6, so divide the numerator and the denominator by 6.

6/6=1

24/6=4

so, 6/24=1/4
