Siddhartha chooses to reject the Buddha’s teachings and find his own path towards enlightenment. However, does Siddhartha follow—perhaps at a subconscious level—the Buddha’s philosophy, or does he incorporate his own philosophy and experience to create an individual and unique path?
What is very interesting about the novel Siddhartha is that if you read about the historical Buddha's life, you will discover some important similarities between his life and that of the protagonist Siddhartha. Though it is not mentioned in the novel, the Buddha's name was Siddhartha Gautama, Prince of Kapilavatsa. (He is called Gotama Buddha in the novel.)
