Judges should not be elected at any level of government.  Judges are supposed to interpret the law based on how they read and analyze the law.  They are not supposed to be partisan politicians who are trying to gain the favor of the electorate.  If judges are constantly worrying about whether they will get reelected, how will they protect the rights of unpopular minorities?  Judges are supposed to provide checks against the elected branches so that those branches cannot do things that will abuse the rights of the people.  If they themselves are elected, they cannot do this in any effective way.
