I think it's more important to look at why Orwell did give in to peer pressure.  That's the whole point of this essay.  You need to ask yourself why there was pressure (and be sure to notice that it was pressure from within him as well as from the Burmese).  Then you need to ask yourself if imperialism and colonization really did create that kind of pressure.  Orwell's main point is that imperialism is bad because of what it does to both the colonized and the colonizers.  You need to discuss whether this is true.

There are so many ways you could look at this! If you are attempting to create a discussion, I think you'd generate a good one based on this question: would you shoot the elephant. It's like the peer pressure most students face. The question is whether you give in or not.
