Why have sex crimes have risen approximately 66% in the last 10 years?
Sex and the things that come along with it, are now more in the mainstream then ever. By a conservative estimate, sex crimes have risen approximately 66% in the last 10 years with some experts saying that it will continue to increase for the next several years.
Two overt behavioral cause for the increase, rather than internal psychological reasons, are offender backlash against communities and criminal networks.
Interpol says that relatively newly arisen criminal networks cater to the trafficking of sex crimes by permitting "traveling" crimes and "tourism" linked crimes. Traveling refers to sex offenders who travel to other countries to exploit victims while tourism refers to crime networks that are behind sex trafficking crimes.
Studies by the University of Michigan and Columbia reveal that while registering released sex offenders is productive for effective monitoring, informing communities and the general public increases the likelihood of repeat offenses and re-imprisonment.
