Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA) are among the most important macromolecules that made (and still make) life possible for us. DNA and RNA are both nucleic acids and differ in composition and function. 

It has been hypothesized that RNA appeared before DNA, but is a relatively unstable molecule, hence DNA took over. RNA molecules can act as catalysts for a number of biological reactions and may even have catalyzed its own replication or synthesis. Past studies have shown that mRNA can potentially store genetic information and rRNA & tRNA can carry the process of translation of genetic material to proteins. DNA molecule took over from RNA, since RNA molecule is more susceptible to enzymes and its single stranded structure is less stable as compared to the double-stranded DNA molecule.

So, the correct option is C.
