You can find background for specific science projects by searching here at enotes under the main focus on your experiment.  For example, if you were making a model of the solar system (a common science fair project) you would include information on each planet and how they interact in your report.

Can you tell us what your science fair project is about?  Have you done an original experiment, or are you replicating an experiment that has already been performed before?  If you are doing the latter, it's likely that there are secondary sources available that may be of help to you. However, when you use those sources, you have to be sure to document them very carefully and precisely.

If you are talking about a science fair research paper, I assume you are talking about a brief report which accompanies the project.  Your first paragraph should introduce the topic of your project and the last sentence should contain your thesis (or hypothesis).  The body of the paper should be an organized layout of your information.  If this is a science fair paper, your teacher may want you to include charts and graphs that would not normally be included in a formal research paper.  Your teacher might want to see this type of visual aid during your science fair presentation rather than in your paper so be sure you double check your assignment.  The last paragraph of your paper should wrap up the project and explain the conclusion(s) you have drawn from your research.

A research paper is usually not a "quick" assignment. I am assuming that you have done a project that requires research and now you need to write up the results of that research. One thing you can do is review your notes and plan a rough outline so that your report is organized in some logical way that ultimately proves whatever it is that you where trying to prove or report.

Is there a general topic about what you need to write about? When writing a research paper, always remember to include a bibliography, or list of your sources of information. If this is not included, you may be charged with plagiarism, which is a very serious case. Remember to gather info from many sources, including books, the internet (Not just one site, either), encyclopedias, and more. One technique I used which I found to be very helpful is to write on index cards, but use different sets (Different colors, or just write numbers on them) to seperate different sources. Good luck!
