How can I generate some science experiment ideas?
I was wondering if anyone had good ideas for a science experiment for a Year 10 student. I have 10 weeks to complete the experiment and write up a 15 page report about the results and conclusion. If there's an experiment in which I would be able to create many graphs, that would be good as these are important in doing the project. I would love it even if you could possibly give me a good topic or area to focus on in terms of an 'experminent'.
N.B. I had to do the same thing in Year 8 and I ended up doing one about the growth about plants in different types of light (artificial and sunlight).

As your prior science training pointed out, the scientist begins with a hypothesis, an observation leading to a speculative cause-effect relationship. Your experiment, then should begin with a hypothesis, stated in such a way that experimentation can prove or disprove it and move it closer to the “theory” stage of scientific inquiry. Given the short time the assignment gives you to complete your research, growing experiments might be out of the question. I would suggest you look into sociological/psychological areas, where humans can be observed, reactions recorded, and results charted. The so-called “soft sciences” (if allowed in your assignment), such as sociology, nonverbal communication (proxemics, group behavior etc.), or social communication, may be fruitful for your purposes—perhaps a human experiment regarding the new technology could be designed. How fast do rumors spread, in the culture of I-phones, for example, or changes in acceptance of otherness, etc.? Your experiment should, as far as possible, avoid too many variables, since humans are not lab rats. Be sure and check on validity of this approach with your instructor/supervisor before firming up your procedures, and there are ethical restrictions on human experimentation.
A clasic expariment is the growth of cristals. Make rock candy. Use various sugars. Mix different ones together. Document their growth of the crystals and then wright up a report on what you found. As an added bonus hand out some of the expariment as part of your presentation.
