The ring system of house wiring is the name given to one of several different types of wiring systems. This system is predominately used in the UK .

The plugs and sockets are the same size in a ring system of house wiring for compatibility. The plugs must be of the same size as the sockets or else a connection cannot be created.  This is also for ease for consumers. By making all sockets and all plugs the same size there is never any issue of having a plug that is too large or too small upon purchase. This also benefits any engineers because they never come across any compatibility issues when they design a house.
