Restoration poetry was typically satirical and realistic in nature. Much of the poetry of this period was written using the heroic couplet (two rhyming lines of iambic pentameter). An iambic is a foot of poetry (a foot consists of two syllables-- one stressed and one unstressed). A pentameter consists of five iambs (or feet).
