Much of this is going to be dependent on what individuals feel about Lyotard's assertions made. The idea of introducing postmodernism as the proliferation of "metanarratives" as opposed to totalizing visions is a powerful one. The emergence of multiple frames of reference that help to make total unity impossible is a reality of the work that lends itself to intense debate. The reality is that there are multiple notions of narrative make freedom present, but consensus near impossible. It is at this point where individual opinion will differ, and why it is important for individuals to offer their own insight on such a statement. Even the controversy about its authenticity in terms of the assertions made about science put aside, it is a powerful work because of how it forces individuals to debate if certainty is doubtable condition.
