In regards to Heart of Darkness & Imperialism, is the Congo still affected by what happened more than 100 years ago? In what ways?

I think that one can make the argument that the violence and the sense of separation that tore apart indigenous people from their culture still exists in parts of Africa today. The same sort of strife between Europeans and indigenous people that resulted in foreign weapons being used to subjugate those who lived on the land before others is being replicated in different manifestations today.  The situation in Darfur might be one such example, where foreign money, weapons, and support  is being used to subjugate indigenous people, resulting in slaughter and loss of life that is similar to Belgian imperialism in the Congo.
