What are a few examples that are real historical events that can be considered both a tragedy and a comedy? If possible, try not to make it a literature story. tell me something that has recently happened or over the past 50 years.
Psychologists studying the tragedy/comedy connection say that without a bit of horror or tragedy, comedy rarely exists. However, there must be some distance in time, space or personal reality for a tragedy to be comedic. Several well known comics from Bob Hope to Carol Burnett have stated the equation that tragedy plus time equals comedy.
Here are some ideas:
The Confederate Flag Controversy:
Though the Charleston tragedy was horrendous, some of the actions by various companies looking to preserve profit could be shown as comedic. For example, Walmart, Amazon, Ebay, Sears and Target have announced they will sell nothing, no matter how historically accurate, that features a Confederate flag. Apple, Inc. deleted all APPs that have any Confederate flag no matter how historically accurate it is. Can we really address this tragedy by pretending like the flag never existed?
2014 Running of the Bulls:
Bill Hillmann, author of book about how not to get gored by bulls, was the only person gored.
2003 Rhode Island Night Club Fire:
Pyrotechnics set off a deadly fire in The Station nightclub. It was caught on video because a film crew was there filming a video on fire safety.
