Cynthia pretends to play the piano effortlessly, when she actually practices a lot.

A prodigy is someone who has extraordinary skill at something at a young age.  Squeaky believes that Cynthia is not a piano prodigy because she practices the piano constantly.  She pretends that she can just sit down and play it without ever having practiced, in order to get attention.  This annoys Squeaky, who believes in the value of hard work.

I pass her house on my early morning trots around the block, she is practicing the scales on the piano over and over and over and over. Then in music class she always lets herself get bumped around so she falls accidentally on purpose onto the piano stool…

Cynthia is trying to get attention.  She wants people to think that she never has to practice, and she accidentally sat down to the piano.  Squeaky knows that this is something that Cynthia often does.  She pretends that she does not study for spelling bees too.  That way she can pretend she is just naturally smart.

Now some people like to act like things come easy to them, won’t let on that they practice. Not me.

Squeaky believes that practice is valuable.  She does not care who sees her running, or doing drills, even if they are embarrassing to others around her.  When something  matters to her, she does not care if she has to work hard to do it.  This is why she is successful as a runner.  It is not because running comes easily to her.  It is because she works very hard at it and trains.

Squeaky gets annoyed by people who interfere with her goals.  She is a very driven young woman.  Because she works hard, she also doesn't appreciate it when others don't admit that they do.  If you achieve something you should be able to admit that you earned it.
