What do you think of the idea of how 'there is comfort in conformity?'

There is comfort in conformity because people who conform do not get made fun of.  They do not have their choices questioned because their choices are similar to those of everyone else.  This means that they feel safer and more at home in their world.

For example, my wife chose to keep her name when we married.  She has had people tell her that was a stupid idea.  When we had kids, we decided that it was best for the family if I stayed home with them and stopped teaching full time.  This makes people look at me funny at times when they ask what I do for a living.  Spending most of your time at home with kids is not what men are "supposed" to do.  It would be easier if we conformed because we wouldn't have to face the negative opinions of others.
