Your question contains as assumption that may not be true ... that the government did ANYTHING except react to 9/11. There is a great deal of conspiracy talk out there about some of the things that happened that day. I have often wondered why the second plane was allowed to get to New York. There was a considerable amount of time between the two crashes; radar indicated that another plane had "abandoned" its route and was heading toward New York City; other planes were headed where they shouldn't have been. Why were fighters scrambled to intercept the second New York City flight before it got to the World Trade Center? I don't know how much time we had for the other planes, but I know we had time for this. Was there an order to ground all fighters (I've heard this out there as well)?
I'd have to ask what motivated this question ... please respond with some specifics.
Anyone who answers this will have a different perspective and opinion depending on political party and if they truly think that the government did deceive the American public. I think that the focus on the attacks allowed for Americans to feel anger which then allowed for Bush to rally support for a war. He wanted to go to war with Iraq to finish what his father could not, and that was to take out Sadam Hussein. The attacks gave him leverage for this war, and in the beginning Americans were very much pro-war and wanted to take out the terrorists. Almost 7 years later we are still in this war, have not captured Bin Laden, and as an end result this war has affected us at home more than anything. September 11th was a terrible tragedy, but not a cause for war. Americans need to learn all the facts first before following blindly behind a president with a certain agenda that does not benefit the American people.
