In a world where almost everything is run by machines it not surprising that we are also running out of energy sources what worsens the case is that the energy sources that we use are destroying the world we are living in. Another dilemma people are now facing is these energy sources are bound to vanish years from now.
The potential of renewable sources is massive as they are expected to meet world’s energy demand. Renewable energy sources are biomass, hydropower, geothermal, solar, wind and marine energies they can provide sustainable energy services, based on the use of routinely available, indigenous resources. While price of gas continue to fluctuate a transition to renewables-based energy systems is looking increasingly likely as their costs decline. Solar and wind powers continue their rapid sales growth in the past 30 years. Due to this their capital costs and costs of electricity generated, and have continued to improve their performance characteristics while fossil fuel and renewable energy prices, and social and environmental costs are heading in opposite directions. The economic and policy methods needed to support the widespread dissemination and sustainable markets for renewable energy systems are evolving fast.
We need to develop hydrogen as a fuel source. Its potential is great and it is a fuel that wouldn't produce greenhouse gases. Solar energy and wind power also need to be developed more. Once the technology becomes cheaper, more people will be encouraged to use these sources. The bottom line is, by the end of the 21st century, the supply of oil and gas will be gone and we will have to have another plan ready to go.
Necessaty of renewable energy is unquestionable but each of renewable energy sources has its problems and limitations. For example solar energy is available for only one part of a day, many areas of the world do not have enough wind to utilize wind energy and also large windmills produce a lot of noise, geotermal energy is not available in most of the world (at least enough to produce electricity) and hydro power as well (also when it is available we often have to flood large areas of forest, grassland, or some other natural enviroment in order to use it), marine energy is obviously available only in coastal areas...
But if we combine all those energy sources, and perhaps some new ones, and cut our appetites for energy renewable sources might replace fosil fuels in due time.
We are probably best off if we find a way to power our vehicles using renewable energy. At this point, we can easily be spending hundreds of dollars a month on gas for our cars, but we can't choose not to drive. We need to get to work.
I strongly support trophyhunter1's idea of developing hydrogen as a fuel source, albeit from a different perspective. Hydrogen as a fuel for nuclear fusion has got tremendous potential. The problem lies in devising a credible, and workable platform for a fusion reaction to occur. Another area of major scientific concern is devising a mechanism for storage or transmission of such a huge amount of energy. Once these issues are resolved, energy crisis will be gone once and for all.
Solar energy is a good one. But the disadvantage would be is that we need more area to construct more solar panels and we can only gather solar energy during the day. and in other countries in certain times of the year, the day is shorter than normal. And yes, I'm quite worried about finding a new source of clean and renewable enrgy to power up evrything especially vehicles and transportation. Oils and fossil fuels are getting expensive and rapidly depleting. If we can't find a new source soon, then the results would chaotic.
