i'm looking for a town with:
a population under 3500 people
a high school
a few coffee shops/restaurants
a forest of some sort
not too big
a town centre with shops, grocery stores, etc.
richer and poorer parts
range of housing
The city I chose was Rogue River, Oregon
Population: 1,920 in 2009 with an estimate of 5% growth per year. That would make the population at this time 2,112
High school: Rogue River High School 1898 W. Evans Creek Rd.
Child care: Kindercare; Mustard Seed School
Kindergarten: Kindercare Kindergarten, Oregon Public Schools (Rogue River Elementary, Evans Creek )
Police Station: 133 Broadway, Rogue River
Coffee Shops/Restaurants: Rogue Express, Soup Station, Tarasco Mexican Restaurant
Forest: Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest
Town Centre with shops/grocery stores: Rays Food Place, Wimer Market and Video.
Range of housing: At the present time they have homes selling from $17,000 to $750,000. I think this may answer the question about richer and poorer parts.
Hospital: Three Rivers Community Hospital. This hospital is actually located in Grants Pass, Oregon, but it is only 7 miles from Rogue River.
Wow, ... well, you have an example for Oregon already. How about a completely different part of the country? I wish you would have given an idea as to where in the country you were hoping for! I live in the deep South, ... and there's a little town near me that fits your criteria exactly: Laurel Park, North Carolina. The population there is 2161. Everything you mention is only five minutes away. It's kind of a suburb of Hendersonville, NC (which is small enough in itself, only having a population of just over 10k). Some of the commodities you mention are actually under the address of Hendersonville, but I didn't think that mattered really, considering they are so close. The forests nearby are Pisgah National Forest and Dupont State Forest, ... some of our FAVORITE places to go! Good luck in your search for the perfect place to live (if that is, in fact, what you are doing). I am a big small-town fan, ... especially one that is close enough to a city where I can see an orchestra play!
