The plectranthus amboinicus plant is more commonly known as oregano, and is used in cooking. It does seem to be used more often in India than in America, and it is readily available in India. It is also a common part of many home remedies.
This plant, sometimes called Indian borage or Spanish oregano, is properly referred to as Plectranthus amboinicus. An alternate scientific name still found in some of the literature is coleus amboinicus, but that name is no longer officially recognized.
This plant has been heavily investigated for its medicinal properties; it seems to have a lot of anti-inflammatory potential.
