Given the perimeter of a rectangle is 224, we need to find the area.

First we will find the length of the sides.

==> Let the length be L and the width be W.

Then the perimeter is P = 2L + 2w = 224

We will divide by 2.

==> L + w = 112............(1)

Now we are given that L= 3w

==> 3w + w = 112

==> 4w = 112

==> w =28

==> L=  84

Now we will calculate the area.

==> A= L*w = 84*28 = 2352

Then the area of the rectangle is 2,352 cm^2

For a rectangle with sides W and L, the perimeter is equal to 2*(W + L) and the area of the rectangle is W*L.

Let the width of the rectangle be W. It is given that the length is 3 times the width or L = 3*W.

The perimeter of the rectangle is 2*(L+W) = 2*(3W + W) = 8W = 224

W = 28

L = 84

The area of the rectangle is W*L = 28*84 = 2352
