The seconds pendulum is one that moves through its equilibrium position once every second. As the pendulum swings to the right and returns to the equilibrium position it takes one second. Similarly when it swings to the right and returns to its equilibrium position it takes one second. The period of a pendulum is the time taken for it from the equilibrium position to swing to the right, return to the equilibrium, swing to the left and return to the equilibrium position.
