dipole moments is the measure of polarity. in other terms we can describe it as the net charge of the molecule as a whole.
to know which of the compounds has a dipole moments, it would very helpful to draw the molecule to show its geometry.
for letter a, all of the compounds are tetrahedral in shape.
the number of Cl's and H's varies.
for CCl4, there is no dipole moment because there are four equal C-Cl bonds (or we can sa that C-Cl bonds cancels out. there is direction of the net dipole moment.
for CHCl3, there is a dipole moment. the direction of the net dipole will go to Cl
for CH2Cl2 there is a dipole yet lesser than the CHCl3. the direction of the net dipole would go to the Cl
C-H (2.5-2.1 = 0.4)
C-Cl (3.0-2.5 =0.5)
