I agree. The book almost is always better than the movie. Books allow us freedom of imagination. We can picture what the character looks like; movies tell us what the character looks like. We can imagine what the character sounds like, but movies tell us. For the record, S.E. Hinton wrote many other novels, and some of the characters from The Outsiders cross into other books.

The film was certainly influential in its time and contains many of the actors who became stars in the eighties and nineties. Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez and Ralph Macchio (who became the Karate Kid). S.E. Hinton herself was apparently a nurse in the movie too!

The film was good but not as good as the movie.

Yes, when I was in year 9, we had to read the novel and watch the movie. I think that it was a great novel. It has a lot of emotions. The book is better than the movie, I think because the book is always written first and the movie actually had a lot of differences to the book!
