Scientists seem to think so.  It all stems from the onset of the Industrial Revolution, where we switched from the farm life to the city life, and people started working in factories, which released large amounts of contaminants into the air.  One of these contaminants. carbon dioxide, is a known greenhouse gas.  Greenhouse gases trap incoming solar radiation, much like a big blanket for the Earth.  Excessive levels of carbon dioxide can promote global warming.  Since 1750, the levels of carbon dioxide have taken a significant upswing on the atmospheric level content.  While rises in global temperature have not been severe, there is a general rising trend.  We can look at examples such as the amount of polar icecap remaining.  We have pictorial evidence that shows the icecaps receding, eliminating the polar biome for animals like the penguin and the polar bear at an alarming rate.
