One painter can paint the entire house in 8 hours. The rate at which the painter paints is 1/8. If three painters are painting the house the rate at which they paint the house is 3*(1/8) = 3/8.

The number of hours they need to paint the house is 8/3 hours = 2 hours 40 minutes.
