Let me start off by saying that in the future, public health nurses will probably play a greater role in many different areas. The idea of a nurse serving a population instead of an individual has great merit.

One area of problem that I see in community is poor diet. Too many people in my community have little knowledge about eating properly. This is a problem, because poor eating in the long run will lead to many health issues. For this reason, education and prevention of diseases will be important - not to mention very cost effective.

In light of this, public health nurses can play a vital role. First, they can monitor unhealthy trends in communities. In other words, they can pinpoint areas of concern. Second, they can start a campaign to educate communities in this area and other areas. Third, they can also partner with local governments to make these program even more effective.
