I need to write an essay on how the events of the 1950's influence the writing of The Crucible. What is a good thesis statement to discuss?

Arthur Miller was inspired to write The Crucible when he read an historical work on the Salem witch trials and perceived in it many of the same psychological and social patterns that he saw in the activities of Joseph McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee.
There are several ways you can approach writing a thesis statement depending on what aspect of the parallels interests you. One possibility is to discuss a thesis statement about the way in which a democratic form of government had become, for the McCarthyites, a sort of religion just as in Salem, religion dominated civic society.
