American playwright Jack Gelber (1932-2003) wrote his renowned avant garde existential play, The Connection, in 1959. It revolves around a group of drug-addicted jazz musicians in New York City. Produced by the off-Broadway group, the Living Theatre, The Connection won an Obie Award in 1960. It was later made into a film in 1961 (and was banned in New York state as being obscene).

I'm not sure that The Connection is available for online download, but you can definitely pick up a copy of the play from any number of Internet sources. I have provided a link below where several different copies are available for a nominal price.
