I can see your Hitler comparison, however, even though Stalin is the more direct parallel. I think what you are referring to as stealing is actually what Hitler was known for - influencing the youth through targeted education and socialization as in the Hitler Youth Movement. I can definitely see a parallel there. In any case, what you would need to focus on is aspects of socialization and learned behavior. Children learn morals, values, and accepted norms from the adult figures who teach them. Thus, to create a nation of followers, begin by educating the children to follow the tenets of the leader without question or hesitation.

I agree with the parallel of stealing the mindsof the youth, which was true in both the Hitler and Stalin examples.  I think you could also compare it to Stalin in that he so demographically changed the Soviet Union by force - forcibly moving large numbers of different peoples to other regions in the country - thus stealing culture, identity and future from many of them.  We still see the legacy of these actions in the former Soviet countries to this day.

To me, this is not a bad topic.  What you should remember is that Napoleon is becoming more like a human being.  You should also remember they've got all kinds of books in the farmhouse like the ones Snowball was studying.  So you can say that Napoleon is going to train the dogs just like a person would.

Then make up things that would have to be different because he's a pig.  He can't whistle, so what will he do, for example.

It would be Stalin, not Hitler.  I don't think there's any exact parallel to him stealing children.  I think it's more metaphorical.  He would expect his secret police to be loyal to him only.  So they would have been expected to turn their own parents in if need be.  You could say that's stealing them from their families, I think.

As another possible gap story, how about the prolonged absence of Moses the raven.  He is generally seen to be the Church, and he comes and goes throughout the course of the story.  Where did the church go, why did it leave, and what caused it to return?  Just another idea, though I like the one you've apparently chosen.

That's a good topic.  He likely trained them using the same methods that Jones had used.  He kept the away from the others, in secret.  They were trained to be menacing and mean, so he might have also been cruel to them.  He likely beat them, starved them, and fed them until they were viscous and loyal only to him.

Although you guys all make a persuasive point here, I think the parallel of stealing the minds of the youth can be associated with other people besides Hitler and Stalin, such as the abduction of children by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), led by Joseph Kony, as a way to form new recruits in their war against the Ugandan government.

Thanks pohnpei397,
That helps. In real life, does this relate to Hitler stealing children? Because our gap story has to be about what happened in history.. Could i base a problem around that?

thanks alot :)
