I agree that this phrase means your future is all about choices.  Your future can be anything you want it to be.  Some things are within your control.  You can decide to work hard and accomplish the goals you set for yourself.  You can also decide to sit back and let life just happen.  It's all up to you.  Some things in life are out of your control, but you can control your reaction to these things.  You can be happy with the things that are thrown at you and try to turn them into good things, or you can be discontented and let the chips fall where they may.  It's all about choice.  Your life and your future are whatever you make of them.

Take a personal stand on the topic. Make a point to discuss how you have set your future to be something and that you plan on following through with your plans. You can also look at people who you admire and see how they have proven that the future is what they made of it for themselves.
