Help with Opening Paragraph in essay on Scout and Jem from "To kill a mockingbird"

I have to write a 5 paragraph essay comparing and contrasting Jem and Scout from "To kill a Mockingbird".

This is really important, if I do it I pass for the year.

If I don't I have to take summer school, again.

Your opening paragraph can/should be adjusted.

""In “To kill a mockingbird”, there are many characters but I think if I had to compare two characters, I would compare Scout and Jem. Scout and Jem have many similarities and difference, plus they are the two most important characters of the novel, so I think they would be the best to compare them.

Here is one way to take what you have and rearrange it:

In To Kill a Mockingbird, the two most important characters are Jem and Scout. Though the two share many similarities, they also have many differences, relating to age and experience as well as personality traits.

Your introduction is weak as I do not think you have a clear thesis statement.  Enotes has a "How to.." article on writing compare and contrast papers that may be helpful at the following link: http://www.enotes.com/topics/how-write-compare-contrast-essay and one on how to write an introduction at http://www.enotes.com/topics/how-write-introduction.   Good luck in your writing.

This is what i have so far:

""In “To kill a mockingbird”, there are many characters but I think if I had to compare two characters, I would compare Scout and Jem. Scout and Jem have many similarities and difference, plus they are the two most important characters of the novel, so I think they would be the best to compare them.

Jem is the brave and reasonable one. After Dill, Scout, and Jem go to the Radley house, Jem loses his pants on the fence while running back to the house. So he when back to get his pants despite Nathan Radley saying that he would shoot anything he sees outside. Jem is so brave that getting shoot is less important to him than losing Atticus's respect.""
