I need to do a project about Dracula, but I can't figure out what to do. Do you have any suggestions?
I was thinking about something dealing with Renfield's obsession with the consumption of life, the good and evil in Mina, or the nightmare/dream aspect of the 3 weird sisters. The problem is I dont know how I could do somthing on it.
Any project about literature needs a strong thesis to be successful. Consider the topics you have indicated. What would you want to prove about any one of them? You can relate them to the story's development, or to a universal idea. For example:
How does Renfield's obsession with the consumption of life relate to the themes of the novel?
What does the good and evil in Mina suggest about the good and evil in all human beings? Does everyone have elements of both?
Why does the author include the nightmare aspect? How does it help the story? What would the story be like without it?
I've included a link to the themes of Dracula as provided by enotes. That might help to focus your ideas.
All of these approaches sound good...will your teacher allow you to write or show how these aspects were interpreted in various incarations of the films that have been done on Dracula? The reason I suggest this that you say it is a "project"...perhaps this is more flexible than a paper? It would be fun for your class to see these manifestations, and you could also track the how and why the characters have changed (political or social climates, for example. Is the Dracula of the 50s different from the 70s? 90s?)
