What would be some major elements to include in a speech about working mothers in North America?
A good way to address the issues of working mothers in North America is to compare and contrast their situations in the United States and Canada. Both countries are part of the rich, or developed, world and both are members of the OECD. They do have somewhat different policies on such things as childcare and maternal leave, with Canada generally closer to the European model of social assistance and extensive maternity and childcare benefits and the United States being exceptional in the developed world for its limited public benefits. This can be analyzed as a contributory factor to a statistical anomaly, that single and childless women although a minority in the workforce, appear as a disproportionally high percentage of women in the leading positions in their fields (executives, full professors, etc.)
