I might add more to this later on as the questions hit me.

1)  What does The Crucible tell us about moral responsibility in the face of social pressure?

2)  What does The Crucible tell us about individual freedom?

3)  What are the similarities and differences between The Crucible the the HUAC Hearings in the 1950s?

4)  What is the significance of Giles Corey's last words?

5)  How is Abigail both sad and malevolent?

6)  Describe if there is a "moral center" in the play.  This means, explore if there is any reliable higher power that can arbitrate or resolve challenging issues in any valid way.  What is the play attempting to say about this?

7)  Describe how characters or ideas in the play are both "uniquely American" and "uniquely Anti American."

8)  Explain with support from the play/ characters how would each of the following quotes is reflected in the play:

A)  "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely."

B)  "The most stringent protection of free speech would not protect a man falsely shouting fire in a theater and causing a panic."

C) "To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men."

D)"Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented."

9)  What are some events in the last fifteen years that have paralleled the predicaments featured in the play?

10)  Evaluate the relationship between John and Elizabeth Proctor.  What are the dynamics in this marriage?  Are they static or dynamic?  How could you define their marriage as "successful"?  How could you define their marriage as "not successful"?
