Multiple book project?
I have a project on characters who show cowardice and courageous behavior. I have to pull examples from A Tale of Two Cities (Dickens), Lord of the Flies (William Golding), Night (Elie Wiesel), and Jane Eyre (Charlotte Bronte).
Any ideas? Thank you very much for your input! I highly appreciate it.

Thinking about Night, Elie is an example of a character who shows both cowardly and courageous behavior. Staying alive through the camps and not giving up on himself or his father took a great deal of courage. Keeping his humanity in such an awful situation would take a great deal of courage. It would be easiest to forget that you are human and have relationships. Many people focused simply on getting food for themselves and did not pay attention to the struggles of others. Elie, however, continued to care about other people throughout his time at Auschwitz. As for the cowardly part, Elie berates himself at the end of the novel when he comes back into the dormitory to find his father gone. At first, he is relieved because he won't have to care for his father any more and will only have to worry about himself and his own survival. He is losing grip on his humanity at this point. He is glad that he will not have to stick his neck out any more for his father. Later on, he realizes that this was behaving as a coward. He is ashamed of himself for becoming like the rabbi's son who kills his own father over a piece of bread.
