A Man Who Had No Eyes” – create a News Report about Mr. Parsons’ and Markwardt’s surprise meeting. How did they meet again? What happened during their meeting? How have the men changed their lives since the chemical reaction? What will they do next? The report should be about 1 page, double spaced. Follow the format:
Subheading- brief description
Quotations- with page numbers
short, but descriptive sentences that detail the main idea
Well, you know that we cannot write your essay for you, but we can give you some ideas. This story is packed with irony. Two men meet on the street. We learn that one is blind and a beggar (Markwardt). The beggar is trying to convince the gentlemen (Parsons) to give him more money so he tells the sad story of how he became blind. He was blinded by chemicals at his work. While trying to escape, another man jumped right over him and escaped, leaving him behind. Parsons contradicts his story telling him "That is not how it happened." He then relates that he, too, was in the same accident, and it was Markwardt that jumped over him, not the other way around. Markwardt freaks out on the street, starts yelling and tries to get the crowd on his side, when Parsons tells him that HE is also blind. Irony.
So, you are assigned to write a news article. A news article should include: WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE and WHY. You need to start out with an interesting introduction, need a catchy title, etc. I will get you started, but you must take it from there:
THE BLIND LEADING THE BLIND
What are the chances that two blind men would meet on the street, get into an argument, and then realize they had both been blinded in the same industrial accident?
This is exactly what happened the other day on the corner of ........... and .............
Now, tell the story in succinct sentences - news writing needs to be direct and to the point. The most information needs to be in the first paragraph and expand upon the details as the article progresses.
