Management is most decidedly art and science, as it is pursued with individuality and structure. Art is relegated to the realm of creativity, passion, and organization in a person but is not restricted to the canvas, pen, or clay. A manager motivating his team to a successful day of customer service can be just as artistic as a painter producing a unique masterpiece. Likewise, science, which is often characterized by observation, note taking, procedures and reflection, is very relevant to the task of management. What manager has not, at some point, had to create a plan of action or make predictions about a persons performance? As much as the profiles of art and science are connected to being human, they are also connected to management.
