Madeleine had a total of 200 dollar ==> 100% = $200

After shopping, she had 80 dollar left.

We need to know the amount decreased .

First we need to know the amount she spent.

==> 200 -80 = 120

Then, she spent a total of 120 dollar

Then the spending money decreased by 120 dollar

Now we need to calculate the amount as a percent .

We know that :

100% = 200

x % = 120

==> x = 120*100 /200 = 60

==> She spent 60% of her spending money.

Then her spending money decreased by 60% and she had 40% left.

Okay so Madeline had $200 to spend and ends up only having $80 left so in order to get how much she spent subtract $80 from $200

$200 - $80 = $120 Madeline spent $120 shopping.

So we are going to divide the $120 by $200 then multiply by 100 to get the amount of decrease

 $120 /$200 = 0.60 x 100% = 60%
