Macbeth and his wife also welcome King Duncan to their castle, both knowing that they are planning to kill him. Macbeth is told by his wife ' look like the'innocent flower/But be the serpent under't'. This indeed he does. He kills the king and then the guards too, claiming he was so appalled at their actions of killing the king.

For one, Macbeth pretends that he has become king on his own merit when really he has killed Duncan.  He also pretends to be Banquo's friend while plotting to kill him.

Later on, there are false appearances that hurt Macbeth.  The witches' second set of prophecies makes it appear that Macbeth is invincible because it says that stuff about him not being able to lose until Great Birnam Wood moves and about how no man born of woman can kill him.

What are some false appearances in Macbeth?

Lady Macbeth isn't really even a woman. Her charistics are not womanly. Her behavior not womanly. For example she really wants King Duncan dead but Macbeth is a little not for it anymore. Also the three witches aren't even woman either. Beards, choppy fingers, and skinny lips are not exactly what women should look like. I can sort of understand skinny lips and maybe choppy fingers but not beards. And what I mean by not a woman is that they don't symbolize woman. Does that help?
