The live aspect of theatre is, perhaps, its greatest virtue. The immediacy inherent in performance offers a visceral experience that ignites the imagination while also playing to the senses, simultaneously.

This dynamic is not true of written language which plays to the senses through the imagination.

I don't think you can say one is better than the other. A writer can do more to appeal to a reader's imagination, but stage actors can relate to an audience physically and through live dialogue. If pressed, I'd have to say I prefer prose because the writer can share so much of his own thought process.

Actors are interpreting.  Acting is all about interpretation, and the actors may not have the same interpretation you do.  This would be a disadvantage, I suppose.  On the other hand, I think it is good to get a different perspective.  You should be open to new ideas, because it gives you an additional experience.
