Fossil fuels are materials containing carbon, hydrogen, and sometimes oxygen and other elements.

Three primary fossil fuels are coal, oil, and natural gas.  Natural gas being the cleanest burning and coal producing the largest amounts of by-products from the combustion process.  Coal and natural gas are two of our main sources of energy in the production of electricity.
