In a way, none of these countries actually made an effective adjustment in the 1920s and 1930s. Although India only had to shake off England's imperial rule, it was not smooth sailing. I agree that South America was, and in some cases still is, a big mess.

I would have to say that India did best, though this is more or less by default.  China clearly didn't adjust well as it fell into civil war and warlordism.  Latin America had countries falling apart and being intervened in by the US.  It had strongmen coming to power.  By contrast, India seemed to be progressing toward more self-government in a stable way.
