Here is a link regarding the Yangzhou Riot.

The riot was a result of conflict between Christian missionaries and the Yangzhou.  The Yangzhou opposed the presence of the missionaries.  This caused some conflict in the relations between the Chinese and Europeans.  The Yangzhou rioted against the British, and the British government retaliated with a show of force.  Eventually the situation was diffused and the British apologized.
