In chapter 20, Amir comes to the orphanage where Sorhab is and he finds out that the Taliban are making the man that runs the orphanage sell the children in an effort to pay for the rest of them to eat. Chapter 21 finds Amir at the soccer stadium where two people are stuck in holes in the field and they are stoned to death. In Chapter 22, we find out that the person who is running the stoning is Assef, the boy who raped Hassan at the beginning of the book. He "owns" Sorhab now. He has orchestrated all of this from the beginning. He was going to kill Amir, but Sorhab saves him with his slingshot.
