While Enotes editors do not compose essays for students, we gladly offer suggestions for writing.   Without knowing the exact thesis, it is difficult to suggest precisely how to compose the body of your essay; however, some general ideas can be discussed.

Assuming that you are writing the traditional five-paragraph essay, you have probably composed three opinions about Calpurnia's role as mother, such as her acting as a nurturing force, a disciplinarian, and an example of truly Christian behavior.  So, for the sake of discussion, let us assume that these three opinions will be used for the topic sentences of the body paragraphs.  The next step, then, is to support these topic sentences with the methods of example and explication.

If, for instance, you wish to exemplify Calpurnia's nurturing force, after writing the topic sentence which is in accord with the first point/opinion of the thesis, you can allude to her loving treatment of the children, such as in the conversation she has with Scout shortly after scolding her about her treatment of Walter Cunningham at lunchtime.  After Scout returns home in the afternoon, Calpurnia has prepared "crackling bread," a favorite of Scout's and tells her,

"I missed you today....The house got so lonesome 'long about two o'clock I had to turn on the radio...."

Because she was not "callin'" after Scout, she explains, she has had time to make the bread. Then, telling Scout to "run along," Calpurnia bends down and kisses Scout, leaving Scout feeling that Calpurnia was sorry for her "fractious" ways, but too stubborn to apologize. A second example of Calpurnia's nurturing is in her defense of the children at her church when Lula accosts them.

Remember that the more supporting details you can give, the stronger your body paragraphs will be.  Be sure to tie the examples together with transitional words, phrases, and even sentences.  Write a concluding sentence to each paragraph that leads into the next topic sentence.  For your assistance see the links mentioned below.
