The following quote/ phrases are from the fifth scene of Act 1 of Romeo and Juliet. They are the culmination of all the action in the play thus far and offer a kind of summary as well. Juliet has just met Romeo and discover that he is a Montague and enemy of her family. She realizes that her marriage to Paris would lead to a kind of spiritual death after feeling so alive upon meeting Romeo. Furthermore, the major conflict of the entire play, that Juliet has "loved a loathed enemy," is established and clarified.
