I would highly recommend Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. It seems like a natural choice for your assignment. It was written in 1931 and published in 1932. Huxley is a very intelligent writer who is a pleasure to read. Like Orwell's 1984, Brave New World is a dystopian novel, so it should be easy to compare and contrast them in your essay. Huxley puts more emphasis on science than does Orwell. Huxley had more of a scientific background than Orwell. Orwell's emphasis is more on history and politics. Both novels contain implicit warnings about how society could become dehumanized in the future. No doubt Orwell was influenced by Brave New World as well as by H. G. Wells' The Shape of Things to Come (1933).
