JD refers to the term juvenile delinquent. Most of society looked upon the Greasers as juvenile delinquents because all they ever seemed to do was get in trouble. This term has been shortened over the years, and in my area at least if the term is referenced it's usually used as juvie.

J.D. stands for "juvenile delinquent." You don't hear this slang term now, but it used to be very common. It was a way of stereotyping young people instead of regarding them as individuals. "J.D." labeled a person as belonging to a certain social group, like the other social groups in the novel.

Since Greasers were looked down upon, being called “thugs” because of greasers like Dally, the “gang” that Pony is apart of are referred to all as Juvenile Delinquents, with a few exceptions, Darrel Curtis (Darry) because he is above the age of 18. Soda is 17, as so is Steve, Two-Bit is Twenty or so, Pony boy is Fourteen, Johnny sixteen Dally I’d say about 19, give or take. The Socs are “The lucky ones with all the breaks.” Well, They are not the lucky ones with all the breaks, they are just like Greasers; real people they see the same sunset (One of Pony’s favorite things….) they also get in trouble with the law, but, are “The blessings of society” at the  same time.

With Love and Care,

Alice.
