A list of vocabulary words for Margaret Atwood's novel The Handmaid's Tale is available on the website Vocabulary.com. The site features forty words each, from chapters 1–12, chapters 13–23, chapters 24–30, chapters 31–39, and chapters 40–46. The entry for each word links to a detailed definition and shows how the word is used in the novel with a quotation. Examples of words include “palimpsest,” “plaintively,” “subversive,” “perfidy,” and “adroit.” Page numbers are not given, but a quick search for each vocabulary word in a digital copy of the book will provide that information. The site also offers quizzes and a spelling bee as well as a competitive game to play with other users.
If this site does not suit your purposes, try a Google search using the search phrase “The Handmaid's Tale vocabulary list and page numbers.” You will find links to a PDF of a partial list of vocabulary words with page numbers; a “Verbal Workout” site with 768 vocabulary words from the novel and their definitions (with the option to sort by chapter and a notation about which words often show up on the SAT); and a quiz site that provides vocabulary flashcards for the book.
